Hi all,
January’s ‘Journal’ entry is now up, including summaries, as well as links and full transcripts: https://futuretextlab.info/2026/01/27/january-2026/
• TEXT & AI
Astral posted a very important video yesterday “Yuval Noah Harari Warns AI Will Take Over Language, Law, and Power at WEF” and while we are not fully shunning AI in our work, this is a seriously important perspective: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QxCpNpOV4Jo
It poses the question: Is AI the end of the Word as we know it?
Does that mean that this is end of humanity’s domain of text? Should we, and can we, change words to remain mind extensions rather than the control of us by AI? My instinct is to say that we need to extend text, and we desperately need to work on this.
• TEXT & XR
I am not sure by what history provenance XR is starting to become viable as AI is becoming a massive change in our lives, but I feel that we can work to extend ‘what text is’ in order to not only deal better with AI, but also with ourselves.
Extend text to be more interactive.
Extend text to be more visual.
Extend text to be more spatial.
Extend text to be better connected.
Extend text to provide better context.
What else and what do you think?
• FEBRUARY
In February we will primarily focus on people, as in contacts, authors etc. – not ourselves – in XR, but the theme of what text can and should be will of course remain central.
Hope to see you on Monday!
