16:07:36 From Frode Hegland : Hi Adam, long time no see
16:07:42 From Frode Hegland : At least we see your name now
16:12:54 From Frode Hegland : By Ben Dover?
16:13:31 From Peter Wasilko : The middle of the night one I missed.
16:13:45 From Frode Hegland : I’ll take a look
16:14:22 From Adam Wern : Been a scout leader on Mondays for the past year, but now the season is over!

16:23:24 From Fabien : related code https://git.benetou.fr/utopiah/text-code-xr-engine/commits/branch/nodal
16:27:06 From Frode Hegland : https://futuretextlab.info
16:27:11 From Frode Hegland : And bottom of the page
16:30:08 From Frode Hegland : https://futuretextlab.info
16:30:57 From Peter Wasilko : I miss the 3 1/2 inch floppy storage design paradigm with boldly colored discs.
16:31:07 From Frode Hegland : Reacted to “I miss the 3 1/2 inc…” with 😃
16:31:17 From Peter Wasilko : What if we used that form factor with modern tech inside?
16:31:37 From Frode Hegland : Reacted to “What if we used that…” with 😃
16:34:58 From Fabien : for nodal started with pinching to split (then merge) and editor, wanting to stretch until it “broke”, splitting an editor in parts, then became the programming part https://git.benetou.fr/utopiah/text-code-xr-engine/commit/7dbeeed9fd90d2b1e88535686b8c63a8feb1e525 but was initially for “just” text.
16:36:28 From Fabien : literal weight
16:38:16 From Fabien : Leon: that’s what I recommend for graph manipulation in JS https://js.cytoscape.org
16:38:40 From Leon van Kammen : thanks!
16:39:44 From Peter Wasilko : Cytoscape is my library of choice too!
16:43:12 From Alan Laidlaw : btw @fabien: love this spacial scaffolding!
16:43:47 From Fabien : Reacted to “btw @fabien: love …” with 🫂
16:44:45 From Frode Hegland : You all agree with the notion of frozen + thaw! Save the original scroll then print a new one if you need one to continue a separate thing of! On paper or digitally. Moleskine’s magic Swedish paper as well. Who here has large printers? Maybe a printer which automatically adds date when printed, computer readable as well, and some how add a ‘filed’ date? Pages of books in this too… ‘a well scanned life’
16:44:51 From Fabien : tech from the Moleskin digital version is South Korean AFAIK
16:44:58 From Frode Hegland : No….
16:45:05 From Fabien : sorry
16:45:58 From Peter Wasilko : I hope no moles are harmed in their production!
16:46:09 From Frode Hegland : Ha…
16:46:09 From Fabien : examples https://twitter.com/utopiah/status/1153390394215997442
16:46:35 From Fabien : https://fabien.benetou.fr/Tools/Eink#Moleskine
16:47:48 From Alan Laidlaw : terrifying: that last link shows up as localhost:5173
16:55:19 From Frode Hegland : Overview from text
16:58:16 From Fabien : FWIW on syntax highlighting can rely on themes defined by users, e.g https://github.com/shikijs/shiki/blob/main/docs/themes.md but as the name says, limited to syntax, not semantics
16:58:37 From Fabien : (unfortunately have to go in 2min but was again a pleasure to chat with you all)
16:58:51 From Frode Hegland : Yes, it was a good meeting Fabien
17:00:41 From Frode Hegland : Colours merge. red and blue to purple etc. blue and yellow to green and so on
17:02:24 From Peter Wasilko : I want a command line in VR!
17:02:36 From Leon van Kammen : @Alan @Frode with an ever-growing amount of content these better-tailored (colored) representations are perhaps inevitable
17:03:52 From Keith : VR Terminal would be quite something. 🙂
17:04:00 From Frode Hegland : Reacted to “VR Terminal would be…” with 👍
17:06:24 From Keith : VR experiences are very spatial, very much about volume and space. Long-form text reading isn’t, not in the alphabetic representation of information.
17:06:46 From Peter Wasilko : Reacted to “VR Terminal would be…” with ❤️
17:13:13 From Alan Laidlaw : great point. I call this: cooking vs climbing. if you are climbing a mountain, you can still cook, but you do not want to bring all the affordances of a kitchen with you
17:13:28 From Adam Wern : I did an VR experiment where you hold the text, and much richer reading for me!
17:13:29 From Frode Hegland : Nice Alan please speak it 🙂
17:13:41 From Frode Hegland : I was gonna mention Adam 😉
17:14:09 From Adam Wern : Hold as in move around with the hand
17:15:38 From Alan Laidlaw : like Humane’s demo
17:18:20 From Keith : Interesting point about micro-movements. When they’re your micro-movements they’re fine (possibly because you’ll have a subconscious ‘motor-understanding’ of the movements) – when they’re someone else’s they’re not.
17:24:22 From Alan Laidlaw : i have to go in a moment
17:24:39 From Alan Laidlaw : projector tech is very exciting for me
17:24:48 From Frode Hegland : Replying to “projector tech is ve…”

ok
17:28:00 From Frode Hegland : 1 min, sorry
17:33:00 From Leon van Kammen : book: new executive brain
17:37:58 From Adam Wern : And before it has been VERY expensive to do 3D text (in physical space)
17:38:28 From Adam Wern : We reserve it for signs, graves, art installations etc
17:48:52 From Frode Hegland : What would you like to work in, in a year if headset is nice enough. I would like open and connected ecosystem, connected to the world.
17:49:09 From Leon van Kammen : @Keith is that a british shorthair cat?
17:49:40 From Keith : @Keith is that a british shorthair cat?
Yes, she’s a rescue so we’re still learning her quirks. 🙂
17:50:13 From Leon van Kammen : hehe 🙂
17:50:29 From Frode Hegland : And books anywhere in the room…
17:51:32 From Frode Hegland : So it’s important to bring the physical room into VR/AR as much and richly as possible
17:51:53 From Frode Hegland : Vernor Vinge’s layers
17:52:21 From Keith : A screen itself is physical but what it displays isn’t.
17:54:54 From Adam Wern : Imagine your roof is a constellation of all your media as small stars, lighting up discreetly on the topics, people, etc you currently meet.
17:55:06 From Frode Hegland : Reacted to “Imagine your roof is…” with ❤️
17:55:10 From Adam Wern : Reacted to “Imagine your roof is…” with ❤️
17:55:10 From Adam Wern : Removed a ❤️ reaction from “Imagine your roof is…”
17:56:20 From Keith : Reacted to “Imagine your roof is…” with ❤️
17:56:29 From Alan Laidlaw : agreed Keith. fear of hifi.
17:57:39 From Alan Laidlaw : Egan on teaching and imagination. imagination is not well understood, so it doesn’t get studied. then beyond measurement, then beyond (less than, outside of ) value.
17:58:37 From Adam Wern : Now off to watch party in XR!
