Text in Non-Euclidian Space Themed Discussion introduced by Fabien Benetou and Dene Grigar, Monday January 13th 2025.
Research Question
What does Non-Euclidean Geometry offer XR, specifically text in XR space?
Sub-Question 1: In such case of deep customization, are existing engines, e.g. threejs, useful or is it actually easier to start back from basics?
Sub-Question 2: Is the underlying data representation enough? e.g. is it sufficient to “just” store objects with 3D coordinates or is it better in a graph, or something else?
Sub-Question 3: Can parametric design, e.g. growing shelves, be used in such experiences and if so how; do parameters of objects become related to the motion or the user, its hands, both?
Affordances to Consider
- Economy of space
- Potential to move
- Thinking outside the strictures of 2D space
- Leveraging the technology
- Others?
Agenda
- Intro to the topic of Non-Euclidean Geometry
- Examples of media that experience with Non-Euclidean design
- Open up the group to discussions and questions
